About Young Colors

Young Colors began in 1998 after Robert and I finished working with Esprit, which had taken us out of the country for a couple of years. For me, the new business was to be my flexible, go-anywhere, “at-home” job while he worked full time for a company overseas. We really started together right from the beginning. Robert and I were able to explore Southeast Asia for two months, all the while learning about incredible arts and crafts in the many countries we visited.

On that trip, I discovered batik. I immediately thought it would be an awesome fabric for kids' clothing. The ancient batik art process utilizes nature to create incredible fabrics. When these fabrics are made in bright, fun colors, they make wonderful and practical clothing for children. After further research, and a blessing disguised as a turn of events, Robert and I moved back to the states and decided to build the business together. I joke about my vision for Young Colors being quite small compared to Robert's - especially with his extended entrepreneurial background and master's degree in international management from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management.
